Dvorak Simplified Keyboard is a keyboard layout invented after QWERTY designed around English letter frequencies and anatomy, rather than around the physical limitation of typewriters.

Notes of interest:

Dvorak is not for everyone
Lots of people have tried it, and some didn't like it. Some didn't like how it effected their Qwerty performance, some felt it uncomfortable, and some just plain ol' didn't like it. Most who do try it do end up liking it.
Dvorak is superior to Qwerty
Qwerty is not designed with speed or comfort in mind. Dvorak is simply just better. However, it is not better enough for most people to switch.

Dvorak is for you if:

  • You have hand/wrist pain and want to try it
  • You want to try something more efficient
  • You like to be different

Dvorak may not be for you if:

  • You have to work on computers other than your own
  • Other people have to work on your computer
  • You don't want to for any reason

If you do decide to switch:

  1. Plan three weeks of reduced productivity; you'll be typing slower for about that long
  2. Read more about Dvorak
  3. Use a typing tutor for the first few days
