This project is the project of Ray Skoog and Scott Macfarlane for CS405, UAF's Artificial Intelligence class. It is based on a game called "Federation & Empire," which is a very complex strategy game set in the old Star Trek universe from the first TV series of that show. In this game, races such as the Federation, Klingons, and Romulans compete to explore and conquer the galaxy, with one emerging, in the end, as the sole survivor.

Gameplay in this project will be similar to the game it is based on. The game is divided up into some number of game-turns, each race gets one race-turn per game-turn. During each race-turn, each race earns money, spends it, and then moves its units around on the hexagon-gridded map in order to secure more territory. Territory can be secured either through exploration, or through conquest of other races, should the race deem that a better choice.

More information on the source game, Federation & Empire, can be found here.

Federation & Empire is a commercial product, and has various copyrights regarding this material, as do the makers of the Star Trek movies and TV series. For that reason, it would not be a good idea for us or anyone else who may get their hands on this project to distribute it as is done with some projects of this type.
